About Dr. Dorn

Dr. Dorn completed her psychiatric residency at the renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital and has more than twenty years of clinical experience. After Hopkins, she served as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina for two years before moving into private practice. Her exceptional training at Hopkins and time at UNC equipped her with a deep and comprehensive understanding of psychiatry, making her a highly skilled clinician.

Dr. Dorn has extensive experience in treating psychiatrically complex patients with single or multiple co-occurring mental health conditions, utilizing an integrated and holistic approach to address the unique needs of each individual. She treats a broad range of conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, ADHD, trauma and related disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, and other conditions, Dr. Dorn provides evidence-based, patient-centered care tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

Hormonally-Triggered Mental Health Conditions

In addition to treating individuals with the disorders mentioned above, Dr. Dorn cares for people who experience psychiatric difficulties due to the fluctuations of reproductive hormones.

She received specialized training at Johns Hopkins, treated this population when on faculty at UNC and now continues to do so in private practice.

Women with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)

Depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and psychosis during pregnancy and in the postpartum interval. Treatment includes medications (if necessary), therapy and lifestyle interventions.

Individuals with Psychiatric Disorders Considering Pregnancy

Those with pre-existing mental health conditions (e.g., bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, ADHD, etc.) who need guidance on medication safety during pregnancy and while nursing. Preconception counseling balances risks and benefits of treatment with medications.

People Undergoing Fertility Treatments

Anxiety, depression, and emotional distress related to infertility or fertility treatments (e.g., IUI, IVF). Therapy and psychiatric support to help cope with the stress and emotions.

Postpartum Psychosis Patients

A rare but severe psychiatric emergency occurring after childbirth. Requires immediate hospitalization and intensive psychiatric care.

Individuals with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

Severe mood disturbances tied to the menstrual cycle, typically in the premenstrual (luteal) phase. Managed through SSRIs or other medications, hormonal treatments and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Patients with Menopause-Related Mood Disorders

Depression, anxiety, insomnia or cognitive changes due to hormonal shifts during perimenopause and menopause. Treatment may involve hormone therapy, antidepressants or psychotherapy.

Is Dr. Dorn Right for You?

Dr. Dorn treats individuals sixteen years of age and older.

She is licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board to practice medicine in the state and her office is located in Chapel Hill. Current telehealth rules allow her to treat anyone residing in NC.
